Arizona HB2766 amends statutes to allow compensation for those erroneously convicted of felonies, including expungement of records and reimbursement.

Arizona HB2766 amends sections 13-4296 and 41-710.03 of the Arizona Revised Statutes to establish procedures for compensation for individuals erroneously convicted of felonies. A claimant can seek compensation if they were convicted, incarcerated, and later found not to have committed the crime, without having committed perjury or misconduct. Compensation includes expungement of records, reimbursement for unreimbursed restitution, attorney fees, and other costs. The erroneous convictions fund, consisting of monies appropriated by the legislature, is used to pay compensation awards.
