Introduced Text

Arizona HB2181 sets timelines for completing and signing death certificates and registering them with local or state registrars.

Arizona HB2181 amends the state's vital records statutes to establish timelines for completing and signing death certificates. Medical examiners or alternate medical examiners must complete and sign the medical certification of death within seventy-two hours after the examination, excluding weekends and holidays. If the cause of death cannot be determined within this period, the examiner must enter "pending" for the cause of death. Funeral establishments must obtain and complete death certificate information within twenty-one days of receiving human remains.
