HB25

Disposable Food Service Ware

Vetoed·7/3/26

HB25 prohibits restaurants in Alaska from using polystyrene foam disposable food service ware, mandating biodegradable or compostable alternatives.

HB25 amends Alaska law to prohibit restaurants from using polystyrene foam disposable food service ware, such as Styrofoam containers and trays. The state is also barred from using or purchasing such ware. Restaurants must use biodegradable or compostable alternatives unless doing so would cause undue hardship. Exemptions apply for prepared food packaged outside the state, polystyrene foam coolers and ice chests intended for reuse, and during disaster emergencies.
