Alabama SB93 allows mayors in municipalities with an even number of council members to vote in case of a tie.

Alabama SB93 amends the Code of Alabama to allow mayors in municipalities with an even number of council members to vote in case of a tie. This change applies to cities and towns with populations under 12,000. The mayor must be fixed by the council at least six months prior to each general municipal election, unless a mandate by the U.S. Justice Department or a court order requires otherwise. The act becomes effective on October 1, 2026.
