Int Text

Alabama SB25 prohibits judges from granting youthful offender status to individuals 16 years or older charged with capital murder or murder.

Alabama SB25 amends existing law to prohibit judges from granting youthful offender status to individuals who are 16 years or older and charged with capital murder or murder. This change ensures that individuals in this age group and charged with these serious crimes are tried as adults. The bill does not affect eligibility for youthful offender status if the charges are reduced to lesser offenses. The provisions of this act, known as Jolee's Law, will become effective on October 1, 2026.
