The bill supports the creation of a bicameral HBCU Legislative Caucus in Alabama. The caucus will include members of the Alabama Senate and House of Representatives interested in high-quality education at HBCUs. The Lieutenant Governor will call the first meeting, where members will elect a chair and vice chair. The caucus will advocate for fair funding, create new opportunities, inform lawmakers, and promote undergraduate degrees for Black Americans. Alabama has six private and eight public HBCUs, the highest number in the country.
