Afghans who stood beside American troops did so believing America would keep its word. Many were vetted. Many risked their families' lives to serve. Now advocacy groups report that the administration is detaining some of these allies and moving to remove them, with the risk that they end up back under Taliban control. For men who worked with U.S. forces, that can mean death. For women and girls, it can mean a life stripped of schooling, work, and freedom. Sending them back betrays the people who helped us and tells every future ally that America's promises expire. A country that asks others to risk everything for it owes them protection in return. Protect vetted Afghan allies by law: bar their deportation to Afghanistan or to any country that would send them there.
