Your vote is counted by your state. Not by the Justice Department. Not by the White House. Not by any politician who wants a different result. Certification is the final step that makes an election real. If a federal official could block it, voters' choices could be overturned after every ballot is cast. Armed federal agents at polling places would do a different kind of damage: they would scare eligible voters away and put election workers under pressure. Voters should not have to trust that those in power will behave. Promises and statements of concern are not protection. The only real protection is a law with penalties behind it. Election workers and voters deserve legal backing, not warnings. Ban federal interference with state election certification, keep federal agents away from polling places, and pass every available protection for voters and election officials.
