The Supreme Court decides whether you keep your rights. Its justices should answer to ethics rules that someone can actually enforce. Instead, they face allegations of undisclosed gifts and luxury travel from wealthy donors, and of refusing to step aside from cases where they have a conflict. When no one can enforce the rules, the public cannot trust the rulings. Billionaires and corporations with interests before the Court should never be able to buy friendship with the people who judge them. Ordinary people get no such access. They get the verdict. A court with the last word on civil rights, healthcare, and elections must be held to a standard with real consequences. Ethics rules that depend on a justice's own good will are not rules at all. Congress has the power to change that. Pass binding ethics rules for the Supreme Court that require disclosure of gifts and travel and force recusal when a justice has a conflict.
