Children should be able to go to school without anyone wondering whether they will come home. Too often they do not. After each school shooting, lawmakers offer thoughts and prayers, then do nothing, and the pattern repeats. Prayers have not stopped a single bullet. Legislation can. Every shooting leaves empty desks, grieving families, and a community that never gets back what it lost. Weapons built to fire many rounds quickly make one attacker far deadlier. Gaps in the law let minors get their hands on firearms. Both exist because Congress has chosen not to close them. Parents, teachers, and students are done waiting, and they are watching who votes to keep those gaps open. Restrict access to high-capacity weapons and close the gaps that let minors get firearms.
