Books are being pulled from shelves, and the people deciding what you may read are not you. When government dictates which books students can access, which histories they can learn, and which voices can be heard, that is censorship. It is a tool authoritarians use to control people and silence dissent. The freedom to read is inseparable from the freedom to think, question, and challenge those in power. Students lose stories about people whose lives differ from their own. Teachers and librarians are pressured to remove books instead of doing their jobs. Parents can guide what their own children read. They cannot be allowed to dictate what every other family's children may read. Government power must never be a weapon against intellectual freedom or constitutionally protected expression. Protect the freedom to read in public schools and libraries, and oppose government efforts to ban books.
